No. You can tap to pay at any charger - no account or membership required.

That said, the Applegreen Fast Charge app gives you better rates and access to your charging history and receipts. Worth downloading if you charge regularly.

A few things to check:

  • Contactless limit - You may have hit your card's contactless limit. Try inserting the card, using a different card, or paying via Apple Pay / Google Pay.
  • Card type - We accept Visa and Mastercard. American Express and Discover aren't supported.
  • Available funds - Make sure you have enough to cover the pre-authorisation amount shown on the charger.

No. If the session fails to start, the transaction is automatically voided and the pre-authorisation is released back to your account. Try again, or use a different payment method.

When you tap to pay, we temporarily hold an amount on your card - this is the pre-authorisation. It's not a charge. Once your session ends, we only bill you for the energy you actually used. The held amount is released back to your account, usually within a few working days (depending on your bank).

A kilowatt-hour (kWh) is a unit of energy. It's how we measure how much electricity goes into your car - and what you pay for. Think of it like litres of petrol: the more you put in, the more you pay.

It depends on your car's battery size and the charger speed - but as a rough guide, 15 minutes on one of our ultra-fast chargers adds around 100 miles of range.

Contact our support team and we'll look into it. Please have your session details to hand (date, time, location, and the amount charged).

If you leave your car plugged in after charging finishes, an idle fee applies. This keeps chargers free for other drivers. You'll get a notification when your session is nearly complete - just unplug and move your car to avoid the fee.

  • App users: Receipts are emailed automatically and available in the Receipts section of the app.
  • Tap-to-pay users: Request a receipt through our Driver Portal - you'll need the card details you paid with.
  • UK customers at certain locations: If you charged at Abington Services, Hartshead Moor (Northbound or Southbound), or South Mimms Services, please email your session details to customersupport@applegreenfastcharge.com and we'll send your invoice directly.

No. All our chargers have cables attached.

CCS (Combined Charging System) and CHAdeMO - compatible with most modern EVs. Cables are attached to the charger.

First, try this:

2. Return it to the charger

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to restart

If you've already been charged, don't worry - the transaction will be voided automatically and the funds returned to your account.

This is usually a vehicle issue, not a charger issue. The charger doesn't lock the cable - your car does.

Try these steps:

1. Make sure the charging session has fully ended (check the charger screen)

2. Push the cable connector firmly back into the vehicle port

3. Lock and unlock your car

4. Try removing the cable again If it still won't release, check your vehicle manual - each car has its own release procedure. Some require the car to be unlocked, others have a manual release inside the vehicle.

No. But most manufacturers recommend charging to around 80% on fast chargers rather than 100% - it's better for your battery's long-term health and faster overall.

Your car controls the charging speed, not the charger. The charger offers the maximum rate available - your vehicle decides how much to accept.

A few things affect speed:

  • Battery level: Charging is fastest when your battery is low (under 20%) and slows significantly above 80%
  • Battery temperature: Cold batteries charge more slowly
  • Your car's maximum rate: Not all EVs can accept the fastest speeds

This is normal. Every EV has a "charging curve" that reduces speed as the battery fills - it protects the battery and is built into your car's software.

The charger is temporarily unavailable. Sorry about that. If there's another charger on site, please use that one. You can check live availability in the app.
